Rated 5 out of5 byPhil72 fromSound investment. With so many jackets covering so many scenarios buying one can give you a headache! In the end I figured so long as I”m warm, I can handle being wet, so opted for the Softshell. As it turns out, I”ve ridden in full on downpours, in low single figure temperatures in the UK and wearing only a long sleeve merino base layer underneath and have been totally comfortable and dry!I”ve also ridden in 10 degrees, with just the pit zips open for ventilation and no overheating or any feeling of being uncomfortably warm. This jacket ticks all the boxes for me for UK Autumn/Winter, and looks great on. Couldn”t be happier, a very sound investment in my eyes.
Rated 5 out of5 byErictheKing fromStill a classic! This jacket replaced an original softshell from 2004/5 which had given many years of exemplary service. The material on the new jacket appears slightly more “heavier” than on the original, which put me off a little as the original was so easy to wear. Once on the bike, however, the new jacket performed exactly as the old, keeping me warm and dry in some very wet and windy conditions. The addition of pit zips is a welcome feature, adding ventilation when required. Although not billed as waterproof, I emerged from several heavy showers bone dry.The only minor niggles I have are the drawcords to tighten the jacket around the waist, which could be more effective, and the zipped waterproof pocket which could be slightly larger.
Rated 5 out of5 byGeman fromexposedzippers.com at its very bestThis is my 2nd softshell exposedzippers.com jacket and I bought this in the black from the online archive at nearly half price ( couldn”t believe my luck). This jacket has a fantastic fit with a real look of style and class, I wore through last winter in the wind and cold right upto the mid spring.i have a pro team jacket & a hardshell but this would be the one I would keep if I could only have 1.truly fantastic jacket, tears fit is in line with classic range with really good stretch to keep flapping to a minimum.
Rated 4 out of5 byBoris fromWinter workhorse jacketPossibly the perfect winter jacket – lightweight but reassuringly well made, windoroof but highly breathable and so far resistant to short showers and sudden downpoors. Love the pockets and their layout, the pump sleeve and zipped key pocket, haven”t needed to drop the tail flap down yet so can”t comment on that aspect. my only negative would be in the sizing as at a stocky 168cm and 80kg I fit the XL fine apart from the sleeve length which is a touch on the long side although with winter mitts this excess material is soon hidden away, andvtge collar comes up a fraction loose, fit aside, this is the best winter soft shell I”ve come across and keeps me at just the right working temperature with just a med weight merino long sleeve base later underneath down to “2” degrees!! Looks wise, this is one beautiful subtle jacket that looks the biz. 9.5/10 (and I”m picky)

Rated 4 out of5 byfergaljpc fromlot of wedge but superb performanceI bought this a few weeks ago as we approach the colder months of the year. it is good in the milder weather as it is in the cooler. lots of nice features like ventilation under the arm, sealed zips to keep the rain out, extra room in the pockets for pumps, food, keys etc. it”s a lot of money to spend but I reckon as it is a classic piece of raphia apparel it will last a long time.
Rated 5 out of5 bybtom73 fromWarm & dryI was looking for a jacket, that would keep the wind and rain out, without giving me the impression of wearing a portable sauna. So far, I have only been riding in temperatures of 3 to 10 degrees celsius, and I am amazed about the efficiency of the jacket. No need to wear 3 to 5 layers underneath! One merino longsleeve baselayer is just fine. It keeps you warm and dry from the inside. The only regret I have is that the jacket is only available in black.
Rated 5 out of5 bybasecampblog fromexposedzippers.com – Classic Softshell JacketHaving previously owned a classic softshell in red, I knew there would be no problems when I came to pick up this updated version (using the refund from a returned Classic Wind Jacket that went… umm… wrong).I do miss the thumb-loops on the cuffs of the sleeves – they aren”t there on this updated jacket – but otherwise the legend continues. Top-notch performance in any and all kinds of weather, brilliant fit and style. The perfect cycling jacket.

What is the difference between this and the Classic Winter Jacket? Also, why is the center cargo pocket opening so narrow, and what is the purpose of the smaller pocket sleeve inside it? Seems a little too narrow for a mini pump.
The Classic Winter Jacket is a replacement for this now discontinued Softshell Jacket. The smaller pocket is for valuables such as keys etc.
