Former NBA star Rasual Butler and his wife, singer Leah LaBelle, have died in a car crash, TMZ reports. According to the outlet, the accident happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 31, after 38-year-old Rasual lost control of his car and drove into a wall. The vehicle reportedly flipped. Police officers who responded to the scene believe Rasual had been speeding before the collision.
Rasual began playing for the Miami Heat in 2002, and was traded to the New Orleans Hornets after three seasons. He then played for the LA Clippers and the Chicago Bulls. He moved to the Toronto Raptors in 2011 before playing for the Tulsa 66ers in 2013. He finished his career playing for the Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Rasual’s wife Leah, 31, worked in the music industry, and even competed on American Idol in 2004, coming in 12th place overall. Leah was allegedly preparing to debut her first album before the crash.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the couple’s families during this time.
