Marissa Rodriguez Is ‘So Angry’ Following the Death of Her Twins

In July, Marissa Rodriguez’s husband, Juan Rodriguez, left their 1-year-old twins in a hot car for 8 hours, resulting in their tragic death. And while she’s sticking by his side, she’s still understandably upset over the mishap. For the first time, Marissa is speaking out and telling her story to Dr. Phil McGraw in an all-new episode of Dr. Phil, which premieres on Thursday, November 14.

Juan, 39, intended to bring his children — daughter Luna and son Phoenix — to daycare, but unfortunately, he left them in the vehicle while he was at work. “He told me, ‘Alright, it’s your turn to pick up the kids,’” she recalled. “He generally brought the kids to daycare, but we switched off who picked them up. I said, ‘No problem, I’ll pick them up.’ He called my cellphone back again, and I just ignored it because I was working. I realized he had left me a voicemail, which he doesn’t normally do. And then he called again, and I said, ‘OK, it’s important.’ And I heard him say they were gone.”

“I don’t want to be here. I don’t want this to be my story,” Marissa explained to the 69-year-old talk show host while tearing up. Dr. Phil asked Marissa if Juan was the one who discovered the children in the car. “He pulled over and was screaming. The police did not allow me to see the children. I have been so angry. I just couldn’t understand how it happened,” she explained. During the emotional episode, Marissa will also touch upon what she wants other parents to learn from their tragedy.

After the infants’ death on July 26, their father was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and child endangerment. The following day, Juan pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter and negligent homicide. He was released on $100,000 bail. Juan’s last court hearing was on October 24, where the lead prosecutor said the case has not be presented to a grand jury and there is currently no plea offer at the moment. He is due back in court on December 5.

In July, Marissa released a statement, saying, “I will never get over this loss, and I know he will never forgive himself for the mistake. This was a horrific accident, and I need him by my side to go through this together.”

Dr. Phil’s Twins’ Tragic Hot Car Death Exclusive episode airs on CBS on Thursday, November 14, at 3 p.m. ET.
