What’s the point of a Teen Mom reunion without a host to keep the peace? If you’ve been tuning into the MTV after shows, you probably already recognize Nessa Diab, better known as just Nessa. The star has been handling reunions for Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 for a while now, but that’s not the only thing she’s known for. At 38, she’s had a pretty cool career, whether it’s lending her voice to radio, playing host to pretty much every MTV franchise, or furthering her work as an activist. And as one of the main Teen Mom players, viewers have come to love her for her funny commentary, great chemistry with the stars, and take-no-s–t attitude. She’s definitely a familiar face to the MTV family.
Nessa got her big break on the network in 2013 when Girl Code premiered with her as one of the original cast members. The show — which is a spinoff of the series Guy Code — is a comedy series that acts as a how-to guide for tackling any situation in life. The following year, she went on to earn a role as host in a handful of after shows for fan-favorite MTV reality shows — from The Real World to Snooki and JWoww and The Challenge.
She got her start on the radio.
She got her start in show business by working nights at the San Francisco Bay Area Top 40 radio station Wild 94.9, where she interviewed artists and celebrities. She went on to work for iHeartRadio and LA-based station Power 106, and she would record her best interviews and upload them to YouTube, which is what led MTV to cast her in Girl Code.
She replaced iconic NYC radio personality, Angie Martinez.
In 2015, Nessa landed the biggest role of her career as she took over famed NYC-based hip-hop station Hot 97’s prime daytime slot, Afternoon Drive. Stepping in for Angie, who is known as “The Voice of New York,” she had some pretty big shoes to fill, but Nessa was grateful for the opportunity.
“Hot 97 has the best energy and continues to preserve the culture, which was something that I always wanted [in the West Coast] but didn’t have,” she told The Fader. “For me to be part of their legacy is incredible.” She also currently hosts the nationally syndicated radio show Nessa On Air.
She’s an outspoken activist.
The Southern California native is very open about her Muslim heritage and she often uses her platform in order to spread awareness to social justice issues. On Instagram, she regularly posts new clips and historical footage of other activists sharing their messages. Most frequently, however, she attempts to combat racism and police brutality, a passion her boyfriend shares. Speaking of …
Her boyfriend is NFL star and activist Colin Kaepernick.
Nessa started dating the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback in July 2015, and they went public with their relationship the following year. She constantly gushes about her 30-year-old boyfriend’s important work on social media. And when it became relevant to work her work with Teen Mom, she used that platform to defend him, too. While confronting Jenelle Evans during the May 20, 2019 reunion, she made sure to point out just how important her man’s work is — and to stand up for him and her family even when it meant that Jenelle walked off the stage.
