Serial killer Dennis Rader — aka the BTK Killer — murdered ten people in Sedgwick County, KS between 1974 and 1991. Dennis got his nickname from his preferred method of murder — “bind, torture, kill.” Oddly enough, Dennis — who shares two kids with ex-wife Patty Dietz — was active in his church. He was even once elected president of the council at his local Christ Lutheran Church. Despite his religious affiliation, Dennis maintained a secret life of killing innocent people.
These days, his kids Kerri and Brian have done their best to remain out of the spotlight, but in 2016, Kerri broke the family’s nine-year silence when she did an interview, prompted by a Stephen King film, A Good Marriage — which was inspired by her father’s attacks. “He’s exploiting my father’s 10 victims and their families,” Kerri told the Wichita Eagle. She added, “He has said he is sorry, but that means nothing. He is not worth all the books and the news stories and all the attention.”
She went on to explain that the film would only fuel his ego. “He’s just going to give my father a big head, and he absolutely does not need that. Great — now Stephen King is giving my father a big head. Thanks for that. That’s the last thing my dad should get.”
Kerri went to Kansas State University where she obtained two degrees. As of that 2016 interview, she reportedly lives in Michigan with her husband and their children and revealed that she’s never visited her dad in prison. “I haven’t been brave enough for that yet.”
Brian, meanwhile, has chosen to not speak publicly. He was reportedly an Eagle Scout when his dad was arrested, and from 2004 to 2009, he served in the Navy. In 2016, he enrolled in college.
Despite his obvious accomplishments, however, his sister is worried about him. “He doesn’t have the kids and the family that I have,” she told the paper. “And that’s really all I should say about him.”
