There’s no stopping Melissa McCarthy! For over two years now, the Academy Award nominee, 45, has been on an impressive weight loss journey.
She’s thinner than ever, reportedly down over 75 pounds — and the secret to her slim-down success is shockingly accessible! So what’s the trick to the mother-of-two’s diet?! Well, according to the Inquistr, the Bridesmaids star follows a fairly strict diet that’s low in carbs and high in protein.

Much like the very popular Atkins, Paleo, Zone, and ketogenic diets, Melissa eats clean. In addition to lowering her carb intake, the actress also has made it a point to drink more smoothies to keep herself healthy.
The weight loss doesn’t stop in the kitchen though! The Ghost Busters star has also hired a personal trainer who she works with frequently. In order to keep things fun for the movie star, the trainer programs high-intensity interval training, or HIIT.
Celebrity trainer and nutritionist Charlene Ciardiello — who hasn’t worked with the actress — says an exercise plan involving interval training and a regimen of eating salads and healthy proteins is key to Mel’s success! “Hit the pavement or treadmill for 20 to 30 minutes, alternating between walking or jogging for a minute, then running or sprinting for a minute,” Charlene says.
An insider claims the Mike & Molly funny lady’s dramatic transformation wasn’t intentional. What started as a routine to get into shape for her role as an undercover agent in 2015’s Spy ended up being a major lifestyle change! “Melissa never expected to drop all this weight,” an insider explains. “She has no intention of losing any more, but if by following the same plan, it drops off, she’s not going to complain.
