You know the end of Summer is approaching when, in my case, the first fashion week invites start to roll in. So as I started marking dates, I began to re-examine my wardrobe needs for the coming season. It’s never too early to plan, right? I decided to start with shoes, and now I’m rekindling my love of artfully crafted heels.
For Dolce & Gabbana, ornate design techniques are delivered expertly season after season. So their assortment of shoes hitting stores in the coming weeks will be as decadent as ever, with various shapes and colors of geometric block heels. I would definitely let one of these brocade works of art be my next staple piece. Another brand committed to incorporating sculptural elements in their footwear is Saint Laurent, and they’re doing it well. Starting with the debut of Anthony Vaccarello’s “logo-heel” last season, he’s keeping the momentum going with narrowed heels on slouchy boots for the cooler months. So whether it’s the stand-out studded version à la Rihanna or all black leather style, it’s nearly impossible to go wrong with Saint Laurent.
When it comes to shoppable items, there’s no need to chuck those sandals to the side just yet. Take for instance, strappy mules from Mercedes Castillo and Salvatore Ferragamo each with their own crafty heel. Or, there are bright closed-toe options from Marques’ Almeida and The Row – perfect for transitional weather. Wrap-around styles are having a moment as well, so I’m really into sculptural pieces you can find at Proenza Schouler and J.W. Anderson. For pumps with a twist, try metallic sling-backs from Rosetta Getty or patterned block heels from Dolce & Gabbana. But if you’re itching for a taste of Fall, splurge on furry pairs from Miu Miu and Givenchy. And for my fellow boot lovers, pay special attention to jewel-toned satin booties courtesy of Tibi and all-white ankle boots from MM6 Maison Margiela. And to think, this is just the beginning of the season.
It may not be September just yet, but we’re definitely in the dog days of Summer. There’s still plenty of time to show off those pretty pedicures in sunny sandals. But, why not spice things up a bit with some not so average heels?
