With the “official” beginning of Summer behind us, it is finally deemed acceptable to wear bright white clothes again. I can honestly say that this hardly qualifies as a rule for me, but for those who keep the tradition alive.. this one’s for you. Besides, I’m always in the market for crisp white pieces to refresh my collection of seasonal staples.
We’re bound to see more ivory tones in the summer months, along with lighter weight fabrics as well. Let’s face it.. it’s all about staying cool. One collection that encompassed this very notion was that of Burberry Spring 2017. From the cream colored lace layers to the oversized poplin shirting, the freshness of the season was both palpable and very wearable. The expert tailoring for which Burberry is known also helps to give their stand-out whites a timeless classic flair. On the more contemporary end of the spectrum, Jacquemus Spring 2017 was a marvelous mix of 80s’ sophistication and vintage French style. By adding drama to silhouettes with giant collars and puffed up sleeves, stark alabaster hues helped to steal the show. These newcomers are bringing French style back to an eager young crowd and we definitely want more.
When shopping for lighter colors, fit and fabrication become even more important. The last thing you want is to highlight a garment that isn’t flattering, right? So for that reason, I was immediately to drawn to belted options from Apiece Apart and Acne Studios. Accentuate the smallest part of your figure while indulging in the season’s hottest hue, what’s not to love? For work day essentials, give wide-leg trousers and oversized blazer from Raey a try. Wear as separates or pair the two together, I support both. And you can never have too many long-sleeved button downs, making the oversized tie-neck shirt from Balenciaga impossible to ignore. Not to mention, with white boots quickly becoming the shoe of the season, it only makes sense to include the glossed-leather ankle boots from Balenciaga as well. Demna just gets it. I’m also rarely opposed to infusing a pretty print here and there, especially with pieces like the striped dress from Loewe and the Cleary broderie anglaise shirt from Topshop Unique calling my name. So many options, so little Summer..
It might not be time to break out the swimsuits in NYC just yet, but at least we’re not shivering. I’m just excited to continue sitting al fresco at least once a week in my charming little neighborhood to write and soak up some sun. So whether you’re planning to jet off somewhere chic or looking to enjoy the local scene, think about refreshing some of those pearly whites.
