One thing I love about Fall palettes is that more often than not the colors and tones get richer. Growing up in North Carolina, I remember taking drives up into the mountains with my family to see the changing leaves of Appalachia and being so inspired by the beautiful burnt orange and red foliage. Whether it’s jewel tones, or in this case, solid silver and gold garments, the deeply concentrated hues add a much needed glow to the darker neutrals that usually dominate the season.
I know you’re probably thinking that this feels almost like a reboot of 1960’s space age glam, and at Paco Rabanne you would be right. For the brand that popularized silvery chain mail decades ago, this modern take with sophisticated draping and sleek silhouettes is better than ever. As tricky as it looks, this glimmering fabric can be rather flattering in an asymmetric cut. Meanwhile for newer labels like Sid Neigum, this Fall 2017 collection was an opportunity to perfect draping, ruching and tying while incorporating gilded fabrics. The rusty golden hue infused throughout served as an illuminating touch of color that brought a cohesive element to his seasonal offerings.
When looking at the selection of gold and silver separates available to shop now, the options are continuing to grow as we get further into the Fall season. Add a new trouser to your rotation with silver straight-legs from Proenza Schouler and stretched gold leather from Sies Marjan. I’m also crazy about deep gilded hues from Sid Neigum and Masscob for a rich mustard tone that works for day or night. And because sleeves are essential, the silvery one-shoulder piece from Maje and knitted long-sleeve top from Proenza Schouler are worth an extra look. Then slide into the into Christopher Kane and Vince skirts for a bit of flounce, and pair with your coziest knit when the temperature drops.
This trend is surprisingly easy to get into when you look at silver and gold as a seasonal neutral. And, either color has the ability to add shine and character to your look, especially in the slightly less agreeable months when you can use a pick me up. I think we can all get on board with that.
