We’re well into January and hopefully still pursuing those resolutions with gusto.. anything to keep your mind off the winter storm trackers right? So aside from putting my gym membership to good use, I’ve decided to brainstorm a few style resolutions of my own. I plan on tackling them one by one over the course of the next year, but I’m starting with my denim obsession. One could argue that 2016 was the year of reinvented denim. This prompted me to switch things up, so I’m challenging myself to find new weekday staples that are anything BUT denim.
This may seem like a simple task for some, but denim can become such a no-brainer for outfits on the go and it’s time to break the habit. I started searching brands with a knack for elevated staples and Rag & Bone was one of the first to come to mind. Between their Resort and Spring 2017 collections, you’re bound to find something equally versatile and slightly more comfortable than denim. Try out their track pants, wool trousers or even a pair of leather pants with your favorite sneakers and head out the door. Newcomer Ryan Roche delivered another notable collection of luxe separates and cashmere based knitwear that pushes comfort to new heights, which is what enduring the colder months is really all about. Using her signature soft neutral palette, the sweater pants and wide-leg trousers make great staples for weekday and leisure pairings.
With new arrivals pouring in every week, I’ve been having quite a bit of luck finding denim-less options. For the frigid conditions in NYC, the Hyein Seo corduroy pants and Vetements X Champion track pants are warm alternatives to jeans with a bit of color too. I’m also really feeling the Christopher Kane gingham cropped pants and Palmer//Harding side-striped trousers for work day looks that still capture a bit playfulness. Check out other cool finds from Tibi in the form of snap-fastening pants and the Ilse Co Sat paneled trousers from Acne Studios. Oh yeah.. what’s denim again? (kidding)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the perfect pair of raw hemmed jeans. Denim really is the fabric of the people, we kind of need it. I just want to find ways to introduce some freshness into my wardrobe by thinking outside the box a bit. What do you say? Let’s live a little.
