It’s the week of Thanksgiving guys, and you know what that means.. the holiday travel season is in full swing. Say hello to weather delays, crowded terminals and a whole lot of fun. With all the craziness going on around us, there is still one thing we can control: how we look. This year I’m taking athleisure to new heights by reworking track pants for the modern traveller.
Joggers and track pants are definitely streetwear go-to’s but with the right styling, they can become more polished add-ons for your other daywear needs. That being said, Rag & Bone is a prime example of a brand that is showcasing this versatility. Their Resort 2017 collection included a variety of looks showcasing the bottoms as layers for a variety of tops ranging from sweaters to dresses. The pairings were completed by either stylish sneakers or sleek loafers, both options are great but I’d take a chance on the loafers. Newcomer, Ports 1961, is an Italian made brand based in London featuring colorful jacquards that remain an overarching theme throughout Natasa Cagalj’s second collection. I was most interested in the less conventional knitwear tracksuit pairings. With wide silhouettes and edgy finishes, this is a whole new look.
I’m sure we’re all familiar with the original track pant from Nike or Adidas, and those are perfectly fine. But, let’s consider some much less locker room appropriate attire. For instance, 3.1 Phillip Lim track pant is a great compromise with a trouser-like waistband and velvet finish. Or, try the Pleats Please Issey Miyake cropped pant for a relaxed look with fun patchwork embellishments. Either could be worn with a classic staple like the Gucci Horsebit leather loafer or the Adriana plaque-detailed leather sneakers from Acne Studios. I’m also loving wide-leg options from See by Chloé and Serena Bute to wear with silky button ups. Throw on a well-tailored blazer or structured wool overcoat and you’re good to go.
Whether it’s planes, trains or automobiles, traveling can be a pain. But, we don’t have to look as frustrated as we feel. Besides.. you never know who you might meet. Gone are the days of frumpy sweats and dirty old sneakers. I’d like to remember even further back in time when traveling in style was a non-negotiable rule.
