Unzipped: How to.. Stay up in technicolor

As I stare at the snow flurries outside my window, it’s really hard to imagine a time when the temperature was above 70 degrees. Dramatic, I know.. but I’m really cold. So in an effort to combat this looming seasonal depression, I’m looking to my never-ending source of contentment: CLOTHES. We can’t change the weather, but we can brighten things up in our closets. So here’s to technicolor, neon and everything in between.

For Spring 2017, many designers did anything but shy away from colorful palettes. Miu Miu was a definite stand-out this season with a collection that spoke to the glory days of yesteryear. Retro silhouettes and color ways helped set the scene for what seems like a sun-soaked day at the club, swim cap included. There’s also an array of belted toppers in several multicolor combinations that’ll be perfect for the transitional months to come. Emilio Pucci is another veteran label striving to modernize with the new wave of industry changes. The Spring 2017 collection had no shortage of color popping prints and designs to breathe life into our sleepy winter lull. With clean lines and raised hems, I could see this graphic play on familiar Pucci designs becoming a recurring theme.

From a retail perspective, there are some pretty exciting pieces up for grabs. Throw on the Marc Jacobs sweatshirt over your workout leggings for an easy active look. Or for more muted work friendly looks, grab the Kalle suede patchwork mini skirt from M.I.H. Jeans. Pair it with boots and some fun tights, how could you not perk up? But if you’re feeling particularly daring, take a look at the “Faye” Mary Katrantzou striped dress or the Miu Miu cropped metallic sweater. Couldn’t you cozy up in the Loewe fringed scarf on snowy days such as this?

Let’s face it.. Winter can be tough. So I’m always seeking a bit of extra inspiration to fight the chill. I’m craving clothes with a sense of whimsy and warmth to liven things up. I think we should ask ourselves, why not live colorfully?
