Unzipped: How to.. Hoodies and Bombers

Is it bad that I’m still reliving the dreamworthy weather from this past weekend? I’m not sure if I was more excited for the subtle chill or the fact that it finally felt socially acceptable to wear my perfectly oversized The Life Of Pablo hoodie. Either way, the memories live on.. So this week, I’ve been inspired to dive back into streetwear with a look at the über chic hoodies and bomber jackets that will be definite crowd pleasers all season long.

From the Fall 2016 runways to the Kardashian clan, the influx of streetwear inspired hoodies and military style bomber jackets has become virtually inescapable. So it’s only right to start with Demna Gvasalia at Vetements who has owned this trend from the very beginning. This season’s hoodies and pullovers feature over exaggerated sleeves and shoulder padding that play well with the unexpected sayings which adorn them. And on the heels of his dynamic YSL debut, we reflect on the last Fall collection from Anthony Vaccarello. With corsetry, bomber jackets and hoodie dresses, what more could you really want as far as streetwear staples are concerned?

So which hoodie/bomber pairing is right for you? Luckily there are quite a few to choose from. Start with easy favorites like oversized cotton hoodies from Alexander Wang and Off-White. Then rediscover the wonders of layering with puffy jacket options like green camouflage from Ganni or an all black shell from R13. Perhaps you’d like to experiment with different fabrications, because there’s always room for something new. In which case, I’d recommend the velvet Croc-effect bomber from Opening Ceremony or metallic taffeta bomber courtesy of Off-White. Both daring statement pieces, and so worth the risk. Also consider the less conventional hooded sweatshirt picks from Moschino and Balenciaga which are sure to keep your wardrobe interesting.

Maybe it’s just me, but I see these stretched-out hoodies and oversized utilitarian bombers sticking around for another season or two. While these somewhat deconstructed looks are often complete juxtapositions from their accompanying price tags, we seem to be receptive nonetheless. And it’s safe to say that the thought of wearing these super relaxed separates during the frigid months to come is definitely something I can wrap my head around. So I have to ask.. Is comfort finally cool?
