Unzipped: How to.. Channel the concrete jungle

Tensions are still pretty high, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Safe to say.. it’s a jungle out there! So as we brace for the holidays, and whatever else may come our way, I thought it only fitting that we dress for the occasion. To be specific, I’m really into the idea of sporting animal imagery just about anywhere. Because let’s be honest, those cat-lady sweaters aren’t going away, so they could use an update.

If you think about it, these animal motifs serve as likely complements to the brights and florals shown throughout many Resort collections this season. For instance, Valentino strayed a bit from the blushy tones of the current collection to introduce African and Spanish influences in the shape of bold florals and graphic animal designs which shows the best of both worlds. Alessandro Michele at Gucci graced us with a vibrant collection that cheered the Victorian silhouettes of old and trendy streetwear elements of new. These motifs played out in fabrics ranging from light silks to furry pelts helped to provide an array of styles that with enviable versatility and cool points to spare. This feminine whimsy and colorful pattern play is what resort collections are all about.

Appliqués, embroidery and graphics have been coming to the forefront as streetwear has become more and more of a driving force in the minds of consumers and designers alike. That being said, it’s only right that we start with the Gucci Princetown printed slippers which basically sell themselves. w I also love the Valentino Tropical Dream print which was sprinkled throughout the collection, on the garments themselves and as accessory add-ons. The vivid imagery played well on the black canvas making it a bit easier to pair with like solids or neutrals. Designers like Mary Katrantzou and HVN chose to create print patterns with linear arrangements that help to tame the look while maintaining it’s edginess. So say hello to your favorite new statement pieces. If you’d like to play it a bit safer, there are equally chic wool options from Perfect Moment sure to please the minimalist in you.

I really don’t think that the Holidays could have come at a better time. Hopefully over the next couple of months, we’ll be enjoying a much needed vacation or some quality time with the family. So let’s all enjoy a little rest and relaxation.. perhaps a bit of retail therapy too.

Brands we love: Mary Katrantzou “Wilson” Striped Cheetah-print Dress, La DoubleJ Editions “The Uccellini-print” Boy Shirt, Gucci Instarsia Wool Sweater, Gucci Princetown Printed Canvas Slippers, Valentino “Tropical Dream-print” Crepe de Chine Midi Dress, Perfect Moment Intarsia Wool Sweater, Alexander McQueen Grey Oversized Obsession Sweatshirt, Stella McCartney Black Swan Shirt, HVN “Maria” Leopard-print Dress
