Thankfully the election is behind us, and we can focus our attention to other, far more lighthearted matters. And not a moment too soon considering retailers have wasted no time reminding us that the holidays are approaching.. and FAST. But before we dig in to wish lists, there’s a whole new set of deliveries on the horizon. Resort styles are starting to come in, and the results are very black and white.
This monochromatic shift highlighted in Resort trends is somewhat of a palette cleanser for collections heading into Spring. The trend was mirrored with quite a few mega brands, starting with Marc Jacobs. Amidst the various jeweled embellishments, the overall aesthetic of this smaller assortment was both festive and accessible. Jacobs included several classic silhouettes with matching top and bottom pairings, while also incorporating some current sportswear elements in the form of oversized sweatshirts. Another brand to watch over the next few weeks is Calvin Klein Collection. By maintaining the minimalist idea for their color palette, the midi silhouette and other prominent shapes became more effective.
Black and white may seem like the cop out of all color schemes, but nothing says transitional style like tonal colors. Start with work appropriate updates like the Dolce & Gabbana crepe skirt and Chloé Velvet-tie crepon blouse for luxe and more understated looks. Or, try on some Chinti and Parker cashmere track pants with the Fendi “Bad Bugs” sweatshirt for the athleisure updates didn’t know you needed. More reimagined staples come into play this season with silk blouse options from Equipment and cotton long sleeve tops from MM6 Maison Margiela.
With the state of the nation hanging in an odd balance, the idea of transition and change is becoming more and more prominent in every aspect of our lives. And it’s also safe to say that most of us have a lingering bad taste in our mouths from the heated rivalries that have been dominating our decision making. Regardless of the outcome, a palette cleanse of sorts is definitely on the menu. So let’s just try to brush the tension aside and start fresh..
