Baby, it’s cold outside.. well kind of. Either way, there’s an undoubtable chill in the air and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to start digging through those bins and breaking out the fuzz. This season, it’s all about shearling and I couldn’t be more excited.
Shearling is about as cold weather appropriate as it gets. What I did not expect, however, was to find Lacoste in my list of furry must-haves. While trying to redefine their place in the market, they’ve put sportswear twists on classic favorites including a masterfully reworked knee length coat with a detachable lower panel. The monochromatic navy ensemble was completed with a matching sweater dress and high gloss over-the-knee boots, all of which I need ASAP. Burberry and Chloé also delivered collections of modern staples with new takes on outerwear showing oversized bombers and half-zips that are definitely helping to make the case that cozy can be cool. Paired with leather culottes or pajama style silk separates, I can see why this is quickly becoming the new normal as far as chic AND reasonable outerwear is concerned.
When it comes to stocking up on shearling this season, your options are anything but limited. For bomber styles, Acne Studios and Balenciaga are no-brainers with oversized and slightly slouched versions of military staples. Meanwhile, Helmut Lang and Inès & Maréchal have you totally covered with knee-length coats just itching to be paired with an array of soft knits. I also can’t get enough of the fuzzy fun with the latest from Sies Marjan and Shrimps whose statement pieces are both colorful and creative. And, what’s Fall without boots? Jimmy Choo’s “Denver” shearling-trimmed bootie is an easy buy for everyday looks, but consider the Alvaro shearling block-heel boots for a seasonal twist.
The idea of wearing head-to-toe shearling throughout the winter months is becoming a serious thought. With a boyish haircut like my own, beanies are a must anyway and who could say no to a knee boot covered in creamy fur? So as long as we’re bundling up, let’s make every layer count.
