The summer is almost over just as quickly as it began, and I can describe my experience thus far in one simple word, BUSY. This is mostly due to the fact that I’m moving into a new apartment, which is equal parts stressful and exciting, but mostly it just keeps me super busy. So I’m channeling all of the organized chaos that’s ensuing for the next week, and digging into the kitschy designs and retro geometric prints that we’re sure to being seeing more of over the coming months.
These all but plain prints are washing over various silhouettes this season, starting with the pattern masters at Missoni. For decades, the design house remains consistent in their ability to translate beautiful palettes into wearable art. Zig zag separates and coordinating accessories were the stand-outs in the Pre-Fall 2017 line up, and there’s plenty to mix and match. Fendi stayed true to their timeless decadence while keeping pattern play at the forefront for the Pre-fall 2017 collection. It takes a great deal of skill to balance whimsical retro palettes with polished finishes, but Lagerfeld delivered once more with multicolor geometric prints, bold stripes and flattering silhouettes. What more could you ask for?
Prints aren’t always the easiest motif to incorporate into one’s wardrobe, but this is just one of those trends you’ll have to dive into head first. I really love transitional pieces from Figue and Talitha, the palette lends to the colder months but lightweight fabric selections allow for season to season wear. Or, dare to try printed pleats from Gucci and Mary Katrantzou for chic workday looks. Colorful prints on a black background also make for great options if you’re looking stay on the tamer side, so be sure to check out tops from Marni and Altuzarra. I’m also liking retro 1970s vibes courtesy of skirts via Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and MSGM, pair either piece with the perfect white boot and you’re sure to be turning some heads.
I’m really starting to think the Summer season is a bit of a whirlwind for almost everyone. Between the relentless humidity and hustle on the pavement, it’s safe to say that the city’s not slowing down any time soon. So, shower me in fun, kitschy prints and bring on the madness.
