One of my favorite parts of dressing for the summer has to be swimwear. Whether you’re planning for an island vacation or just hanging out around the pool, there’s always an excuse to buy a new swimsuit. But with dozens of designs, I had to narrow down my options to the best categories of this season: multicolor prints, unconventional materials, no-fuss bralettes, side cut-outs, and cropped tees. So, what’s your flavor?
Swim season brings about a host of new designers every season, but there are certain brands that have become mainstays. For instance, the newly sustainable Mara Hoffman has become a widely received collection of summery favorites that buyers can actually feel good about. With her bold and playful palette, the various pieces in her collection make a good case for permanent vacation. And, it’s kind of impossible to discuss swimwear without mentioning Lisa Marie Fernandez. Her flirty sets make you want to wear pieces in and out of the water, not to mention her inventive use of unique fabrics.
When buying swimwear I’m always a fan of options, and it’s all about finding pieces that you feel comfortable wearing. So take your time when determining fit, and don’t be afraid to try a bunch of different cuts and silhouettes. Now it’s time to talk styles. For those technicolor dreams, I’m drawn to the “Zena” high-cut suit from Sian and the “Meridan-print” bikini set from Mara Hoffman. Whether it’s high-waisted or high-cut, you’re going to be turning heads in the best way. As I mentioned before, when it comes to creative fabric selections Lisa Marie Fernandez is your girl. Her dyed pink, “Bardot” Japanese cotton set will naturally fade as you wear and wash it. Um.. so cool!
Meanwhile, the minimalist in me is craving bralettes from the dynamic duo at Mikoh. So their island inspired designs like the strappy “Uluwatu” top and “Velzyland” briefs are calling my name. Side cut-outs add a fun twist as well, especially stripes courtesy of Norma Kamali and pattern play with Adriana Degreas. And finally, I’m actually excited that cropped tees are having their moment in swimwear, and I think Marysia Swim would be inclined to agree. Slip on a flowy mini skirt with their “Mexico” scalloped set and you’re good to go.
With the first major NYC heat wave upon us, it’s hard to think of anything but jumping into a giant pool. But if you can’t, why not take advantage of the chic assortment of swimwear right at your fingertips, from the comfort of an air conditioned room. Almost the same thing, right?
