Let me begin by saying that winter footwear has always been an issue for me. I long for the summer days where I can just slip my feet into a strappy sandal, even a Birkenstock (though never a flip flop). When the temperatures really drop, even that tiny patch area on the top of your feet that the ballet flat or loafer exposes is too much skin. Of course the boot is most people’s go to winter shoe option but finding a boot with the correct shaft circumference can be difficult—I usually find them to tight or too wide—and sometimes unnecessarily warm indoors. I fell in love with the ankle boots Raf Simons offered at the Dior Spring 2015 show. The boots look sculpted to the model’s feet, almost like a glove boot. While the short ankle boot might lack the coverage of a knee-high boot, they are extremely capable of guarding one’s feet from the impending cold and winter slush, and visually retain the length of your legs. As Simons implied, the ankle boot is not strictly seasonal, you can easily spring purchases made now into the next season.
