For the past few seasons it’s been all about leather: leather pants, leather skirts, leather jackets. So I was pleasantly surprised to see so much suede hitting the shops for Spring. The luxe material was all over the runways last September, but you never know what’s going to make it the sales floor. I really knew the tide had turned when I was shopping last week (for leather pants) when I spotted a pair of vintage, navy suede Hermès pants. It was fashion fate that they fit! Nevermind the leather pants, the suede felt fresh. Suede is more subtle too, from far away it looks like a any other heavy fabric, but up close it wears significantly richer and adds texture to one’s look. I think it’s also easier to invest in colored suede as opposed to the safe choices we usually make with leather. I had no qualms about spending a little extra on the navy pair and know I will get loads of wears out of them. Lindsay Butler of Veda introduces the little suede dress this season and it is adorable. I also love the suede jackets that feel so 70s, but in the really good way. Suede minis, shorts, and shoes are also out there, and I bet this one will be mine before the season is over!
