This Miami-born, Parsons School of Design educated, and now New York-based designer is as unique and unfussy as her designs. Nikki Chasin firmly believes style and comfort can coexist without compromising either detail; and her playful collection is evidence of this. Interesting textures and bold prints are signatures of her namesake line and can be found in all the coolest boutiques, Shop Nonna, In Support Of, Bird, Sincerely, Tommy, among others.
How does your Miami background influence your design aesthetic?
I design with a vacation state of mind- there’s lots of color, texture, and an emphasis on color.
Who is the Nikki Chasin girl?
She has a sense of humor and doesn’t take herself too seriously.
What has been your proudest moment as a designer so far?
Anytime a customer tells me that my clothes help them feel their best is a proud moment for me! I also feel proud when I can convince a customer to step out of their comfort zone and try something new.
Where do you source your fabrics?
I source my fabrics from mills around the world, mainly Italy, India, and Japan. I go for what feels good to me at the moment, and I try to find fabrics that can work for several categories- dresses, jackets, pants, etc.
What are you up this summer?
I just finished my first Resort collection, so I left my summer pretty free to focus on the sales and promotion for that. I’ll head to the Bay Area in August for some quiet nature time.
Best part of being in NYC during the summer?
I really enjoy the quiet and empty summer days in the city. It’s also great to have so many beaches nearby.
Any fun travel coming up?
I’ll go to Miami for a long weekend soon, and Half Moon Bay for a week in August. I’d like to plan something for the fall – maybe Iceland or Portugal!
