Lost and Found: Perfectly Pearly Style

The infamous Calvin Klein pearl-laden dress worn by, stolen and returned to Lupito Nyong’o, was by all accounts priceless, whether the pearls were real or not. As a happy ending, Lupita and designer Francisco Costa set the stage for springs’ surprise style winner in every category. Once relegated to the classic necklace, pearls have taken on a new life from head to toe.  Fabulously faux, they embellish shoes, sweatshirts, skirts and more this season. Jeremy Scott paying tribute to Moschino, a longtime purveyor of pearls, super sizes them on his luxurious boucle coat, while Miu Miu, new to the movement, uses the gems as a creative collar. Further proving pearls can be dressed up or down, Adam Selman offers an embellished sweatshirt (already sold out on Net-a-Porter) and detailed mini dress. Perhaps the most irreverent applications can be seen in Nicholas Kirkwood’s pearly pumps and platforms, and Eugenia Kim’s ornate woven hat. And we haven’t even talked about the jewelry trends! Stay tuned for more pearls of spring fashion…
