I have been meaning to write about Kick Pleat for awhile. And when I received their email this morning informing their subscribers that they are donating 30% of all sales today, online and in store, to Hurricane Harvey relief I couldn’t wait another day. The Austin-based store opened their Houston location last year. According to the email, the store re-openend today after being closed due to the hurricane.
Owner Wendi Koletar has such an exquisite eye and stocks her store with familiar names like Apiece Apart, Rachel Comey, and Jil Sander, but introduces her customers to lesser-known labels as well: Sophie D’Hoore, Hache, Fabiana Pigna, Kowtow and Dusan among many others. I’ve been shopping this store online for awhile with a purchase here and there, but their fall buy is like nothing I have seen before from them. The extremely cohesive collection is completely Koletar-approved and while pieces touch on trends nothing is overly trendy or too indulgent. Textural knits from Demylee, houndstooth pants and jackets, and structural blouses find their rightful places in between less serious velvet pants, oversized sweatshirts from Nehera, and pleated separates from Issey Miyake. I’m convinced Koletar is single-handedly behind Miyake’s moment right now.
If you still haven’t found a way to support the crisis happening in Houston right now – shopping is a good place to start. Proceeds will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund through the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
