Interview

You’ve done both editorial (at TeenVogue, The Face, Arena Homme Plus, Purple Magazine, Elle UK, Lucky) and runway styling (for Karen Walker, Salvatore Ferragamo, Araks). Which do you prefer?

I love both for different reasons. Editorial is great to get your creative juices flowing and collaborate with photographers that inspire you and clothing that inspires you. I have been working with Karen Walker for ten years now so it’s a very organic process. I’m involved with the conception of the collection and the creating of the look, and then of course putting the looks together before the show. It’s fun to see it all come together.

Would you ever want to get into celebrity red carpet styling?

I wouldn’t say no, if it were an actress or actor I respect I would love to.

How would you describe your personal style? What designers do you wear every day?

My style is boyish, almost uniform dressing. I never wear dresses, mostly pants and shorts in the summer. I love menswear-inspired designers: Celine, Comme Des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Karen Walker, Boy by Band of Outsiders, Phillip Lim’s masculine pieces. I love vintage army coats and mens dress shirts!

What shows did you really like from last Fashion Week?

Celine, JW Anderson, Marc Jacobs, Comme Des Garcons and Junya Watanabe.

Do you harbor the desire to become a designer?

Not really, but I do want to do a pajamas line, superboyish and exactly what I want to wear.

What’s the craziest shoot you’ve ever styled for?

P Diddy and Penelope Cruz for America Magazine with Peter Lindberg – 3 days of crazy!

What trends are you really liking right now?

Menswear mixed with fur and army pieces, and Prada platform brogues. Even a pajama top with tailored pants and great bag.

Are there other stylists–editorial or red carpet–whose work you really admire?

Jane How, Carine Roitfeld, and Alistair McKimm.

If you weren’t styling, what do you think you’d be doing?

I’d be on Broadway, of course, playing Eponine in Les Miserables.
