The fashion industry lost an irreplaceable icon today. Vogue Italia‘s Editor in Chief passed away today after a yearlong illness. She held the EIC position at Vogue Italia for 28 years, and has been a pillar of advocacy for Italian fashion talent and championed the careers of once young photographers Bruce Weber, Paolo Roversi and Steven Meisel. Because only Italians speak Italian she used imagery to influence a larger, global audience. She belived fashion wasn’t just about clothes, but about life. Vogue Italia‘s often controversial editorials reflected this. She will be greatly missed among the fashion community. For now, we can look forward to the documentary, Franca: Chaos and Creation, her son has directed about his mother. It will be released in early 2017.
